Origin House

Venture capital isn't short on capital. It's short on the right pipeline. A meaningful share of early stage capital sits undeployed every year because the risk that scares off a check doesn't show up at the term sheet. It shows up earlier, when there's no team, no co-founder, and no proof the idea survives contact with the market. That earliest stage has almost no institution built to serve the founders or the idea, and it is the stage Origin House is built to own, by starting with people who already carry real insight and giving them two things they cannot get on their own: a team built to execute, and a real path to distribution.

Origin House does not begin by recruiting startups. We begin by finding people who already understand an expensive, important problem in an underserved market from the inside: the operator who has lived the failure, the practitioner who has watched the workaround, the insider who knows exactly where the money leaks. Most of them never set out to become founders. They already carry the insight a founder would spend years trying to learn. We find them before there is a startup to accelerate, pair them with a builder, and write the first check to turn that insight into a real team.

Our first cohort is not generalist. We are starting inside property, an industry large enough to matter and broken in ways that are expensive and well understood by the people working inside it. Brokers, operators, contractors, property managers, and lenders see exactly where the friction lives. Our first bet is that some of the best companies of the next decade will come from people who already know the property ecosystem better than any outside founder could.

A team and a first check are not enough. Building a product is the easy part. What most early founders lack is a credible path into the market: real customers, real revenue, and real evidence that what they've built works. So we bring them into our own network: partnerships with distributors across Minnesota, from small independents to large players, and relationships with industry veterans who understand this market and can open the right doors. We give founders access to that route early, from first conversations through to their first paying customers. By the time a company is ready for its next raise, it should already have something rarer than a good pitch, real traction.

We do this from a physical home in the Twin Cities, a market with deep technical and operating talent but without the connective tissue that makes founder formation efficient on the coasts.

Company formation today leans heavily on who you already know, and the standard path teaches founders to optimize for a pitch rather than a paying customer. Our thesis is that if this model, insight first sourcing, distribution through local partnerships, and a bar set at real revenue, works in Minneapolis, the same approach can take root in other cities and industries without that connective tissue. That is the change we are working to prove, not one we are claiming to have already made.

Our aim is straightforward. Founders who come through Origin House build their companies here, learning alongside our founding team at the studio, instead of leaving for the coasts. People with domain expertise but no traditional path into venture, working on problems in markets too often overlooked, get a first shot. As we grow, we plan to track this directly: how many founders come through, how many earn a first dollar of revenue, how many raise follow-on capital, how many stay and build in the Midwest, and how many go on to mentor and coach the next generation of builders. That data, not a claim, is what will show whether the impact is real.

We are not trying to outcompete other funds for deals already in motion, and we are not another accelerator preparing companies for a pitch. We are building the layer before that, where a deal does not exist yet because a company does not exist yet.
